Pediatric Urotherapy - Clinical Services Nurse II
The Pediatric Urotherapy Clinical Service Nurse collaborates with members of the healthcare team to enhance patient care by providing evidence-based clinical care and patient / family education to patients with complex urologic problems. The Clinical Service Nurse is a dynamic and positive role model for nursing staff.
Specific Job Responsibilities and Standards
Plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures:
Provide specialized nursing care and education to patients with complex urologic problems to maximize clinical outcomes for the patient and family.
Demonstrate competence and have documented evidence of competencies related to the following urotherapy procedures:
Pelvic floor EMG
Voiding Pressure Monitoring
Abdominal Pressure Monitoring
Anal / Sphincter EMG Monitoring
Maintain and calibrate urodynamic equipment on a regular basis
Assist pediatric urology providers in preparing patients for urotherapy procedures and subsequent medical and surgical management.
Coordinate clinical practice and/or clinical program services to maximize patient outcomes and to accomplish the strategic objectives of the healthcare team, the CHC, and of the organization.
Collaborate with members of the healthcare team (patients, nurses, physicians, dietitians, pharmacists, Patient Resource Managers, social workers, etc.) in determining necessary follow-up and plan of care for patients with complex urologic problems.
Collaborate with clerical staff to ensure patient pre-certification, scheduling, and follow-up.
Assist patients and families with the understanding of their diagnosis and the management thereof:
Develop evidence-based teaching materials for urotherapy studies and procedures.
Educate patients and families about bladder studies and management, including post-procedure care, bladder catheterization, post-operative management after bladder reconstruction, bowel management, and follow-up.
Teach, support, and coach nursing staff and healthcare learners to promote evidence-based clinical practice, knowledge, and skills related to pediatric urology and care of the pediatric patient undergoing urologic studies.
Support nursing staff retention through on-going and clinically/professionally relevant formal and informal teaching opportunities.
Participate, and as appropriate provide leadership, in the development of patient education standards and protocols.
Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and function as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team:
Serve as a resource and professional role model to nursing staff and leadership.
Establishes collaborative relationships within and across departments that promote patient safety, culturally competent care, and clinical excellence
Facilitates intra-agency and inter-agency communication.
Communicate effectively to maintain positive working relationships and achieve desired outcomes.
Role model advanced practice professional nursing through conduct, appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision-making, critical thinking, continuous learning and problem-solving skills
Assume responsibility for professional self-development. Quality of work reflects high professional and ethical standards.
Assist in the development and implementation of general policies and procedures designed to effect efficiency of operations:
Integrate evidence in the management of patients, families and groups
Collaborate in quality improvement initiatives
Assist with clinical research when appropriate
Minimum Qualifications to apply:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina
Experience: One year of pediatric RN experience, otherwise will train you!
Life support: BLS
Hours - Monday - Friday, no weekends, no holidays or call.
