Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Certified Nurse Midwife in collaboration with Ocean Health Initiatives, Inc. (OHI), staff physicians, will provide primary care services to the patients of OHI that is consistent with established policies, procedures and protocols, the Joint Commission policies and procedures, OSHA standards, and other safety and health related codes and laws.
Responsibilities:
- Performs complete health examination of perinatal, prenatal, and postpartum patients, including health history and physical examination, in accordance with protocols established by the Chief Medical Officer or designee.
- Provides direct care for women in labor, including management of normal delivery.
- Provides health instruction for women in all stages of life cycle.
- Provides health examinations of inter-partum patients, especially those seeking advice concerning family planning and gynecological issues.
- Provides patient/family education, health counseling, and health advocacy services to patients, their families and significant other.
- Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary health care team to establish patient care programs and policies.
- Participates in OB/GYN call schedule as directed.
- Orders appropriate laboratory studies and referrals, interprets the results of laboratory tests and follow-up of abnormal lab reports.
- Orders treatment in keeping with protocols established by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) and OHI approved guidelines.
- Provides direction and supervision to the ancillary clinical OB/GYN staff.
- Carries out administrative activities in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department as directed by the CMO or designee.
- Prepares reports of activities of the Obstetrics and Gynecology section as directed by the CMO or designee.
- Carries out additional duties including research projects, and community health education, as assigned by the CMO or designee.
- Is responsible for the proper interpretation and execution of clinician orders.
- Prepare OB/GYN paperwork, having knowledge of all forms pertinent to the EMR System.
- Verify pregnancy tests and perform routine prenatal screenings.
- Responsible to supervise patients and staff during an emergent OB/GYN situation until appropriate emergency medical assistance arrives.
- Responsible to pursue necessary educational requirements to maintain license.
- Instruct patients on all aspects of inter-partum care including but not limited to medication, treatments, procedures, pre-term labor, etc.
- Provides leadership role in clinical collaboration committees as it relates to the day-to-day patient care model. Demonstrates professional and leadership qualities to facilitate a cohesive and productive team.
- Protects patient privacy and maintain accurate medical records.
- Must be capable to perform and analysis routine in-office testing.
- Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of OHI.
- Provides telephone triage and consultation to patients.
- Completes all mandatory in-services.
- Adheres to Corporate Compliance policies.
- Is highly accountable for one's own productivity. In order to maintain transparency, all projects must be represented clearly on a project board in Monday.com. You are responsible for ensuring the board is always updated and accurate and that information is accessible to those that need it.
Education and Experience:
- Master’ Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
- Maintaining continuing educational requirements as required for licensure and skills maintenance.
- 3-5 Years’ experience at RN level in medical center or long term care setting.
Certifications and Licensures:
- Active State of New Jersey RN and Advanced Practice Nurse License.
- Active State of New Jersey CDS and DEA License to prescribe and maintain controlled substances
- Certification by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Nurse.
- Active BCLS and ACLS certifications

Physical/Aptitude/Environmental Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, an employee will generally be required to sit (i) during at least 50 % of their work shift; or (ii) at least 4 hours in a 8 hour shift; and will generally be required to stand (i) during at least 50 % of their work shift; or (ii) at least 4 hours in a 8 hour shift. The employee will be required to walk or ambulate around the office. The employee must have sufficient vision and use their arms, fingers and/or hands to manipulate and use office equipment, including but not limited to, telephones, computers, computer keyboard, and cabinets/drawers. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and carry approximately 10 pounds.
The employee will be occasionally required to stoop, bend, reach, pull, push, kneel and/or crouch, e.g. to retrieve supplies, stock cabinets, and file records. The employee must be able to communicate in a manner that is understood by patients and other employees. An employee must be able to function and perform their duties while under the inherent stresses of a busy office setting with a high volume of patients.
