As a Level III Regional Referral Center, Woman’s is part of a select group of hospitals in the nation that can provide quality care for the smallest and sickest babies. Our unit is designed to focus on intensive care while encouraging family bonding. Our designation as a Level III Regional Referral Center means we have a neonatologist and anesthesiologist available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our caring team of neonatologists and specially trained nurses monitor the baby’s condition at all times by direct observation, and by using the latest specialized equipment and technology available. We also participate in the Vermont Oxford Quality Improvement Collaborative with 500 other NICUs across the country to keep abreast of the latest research and emerging practices that offer the best care for premature and critically ill babies.

This is an administrative position responsible for managing one or more defined areas of patient care services, including coordination of activities, provision of clinical and administrative leadership, and expertise. Directs patient care staff to promote quality patient care and consistent nursing standards on a continual basis. Gives clinical perspective through service on various committees and councils. Serves as a patient and staff advocate. Directs and coordinates patient care within assigned area of responsibility, according to the established standards subscribed by the American Nurses Association and in accordance with the Louisiana Nurse Practice Act.

• Total Hospital Beds: 168 adult beds; 84 NICU beds

Strategic Leadership:

• Actively engages in the development and implementation of the NICU’s strategies to align with the strategic plan for the hospital
• Provides guidance toward the purchasing of future technology and equipment
• Remains proactive in the achievement of the department's goals and objectives
• Determines opportunities to improve the quality of services provided
• Demonstrates quality leadership in meeting performance plans

Inspirational Leadership:

• Provides vision, direction, and leadership to the NICU staff
• Works collaboratively across organizational lines to facilitate hospital and departmental operations to ensure patient needs are met
• Acts as a change agent and manages organizational change efforts to ensure operational effectiveness

Operational Leadership:

• Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and supervises functions and activities of the department
• Ensures excellent patient experience by providing high levels of customer service
• Maintains an environment that promotes patient and employee safety and quality outcomes
• Establishes and implements policies and procedures, work standards, and workflow for the department
• Develops and oversees departmental budgets and assures financial accountability for annual operations and capital expenditures
• Ensures local, state, and federal regulatory compliance

People Leadership:

• Assures the availability of appropriately trained staff to deliver a high-quality and consistent service

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in nursing; Master's degree in nursing is preferred
• Current licensure with the Louisiana State Board of Nursing
• NCC Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Certification
• Five years of Neonatal nursing experience, with supervisory responsibilities for at least three of those years.
• Considerable knowledge of current theoretical approaches to the delivery of nursing care
• Ability to participate in developing and implementing organizational strategies to improve the delivery of care
• Excellent managerial, communication, and interpersonal skills.
