UNIT DESCRIPTION

• The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a fast paced 14 bed unit. The Pediatric Critical Care Transport Team, comprised of a primary nurse clinician and a secondary critical care nurse is available either in the hospital or on call.A The PICU/PCCTS provides comprehensive medical and nursing care to sick, post operative, and injured children who require a high level of monitoring, treatment, and care. Care is provided on pediatric transport and in the PICU until the patient is transferred to an inpatient unit, transferred to another facility or discharged home.A Skill Level of Personnel PICU/PCCTS is staffed with Registered Nurses, licensed in the State of Tennessee, who are certified in PALS. A All personnel demonstrate competence in the performance of specialized PICU skills. Nurses performing in the role of Primary Transport Nurse demonstrate competency in specialized pediatric transport skills.A PICU is staffed with Registered Nurses, Patient Care Assistants and Health Unit Coordinators. BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

• Manages individualized, goal-directed nursing care through use of the nursing process and the principles of primary nursing in accordance with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

• Minimum Work Experience
  • Pediatric nursing experience preferred.
• Required Licenses/Certifications for position
  • Nursing Licensure for State of Tennessee
• Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Heavy lifting, pushing and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently and 10 lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
