M Health Fairview is a large healthcare system that manages five distinct NICU within the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. The M Health Fairview Ridges and Southdale is a level III NICU that cares for infants born at 28 weeks gestation or greater provides regional neonatal care for premature and medically unstable infants. The M Health Fairview St. Johns Hospital is a level III NICU that provides regional neonatal care for premature and medically unstable infants 28 weeks gestation or greater. Woodwinds is a Special Care Nursery designed for infants who are born up to 6 weeks prematurely or need extra care after birth.
This fast-paced NICU environment thrives on collaborative multi-disciplinary care, including an integrated neonatal therapy model with all infants and families.
We are looking for 2 therapists each working 3- 9 hour days and 1 weekend a month
For NICU role:
Provides care for newborns and premature infants, requiring specialized nursing care and close observation. Performs and/or assists with procedures.
The occupational therapist partners with the patient and family while performing the Evaluation/Re-evaluation
Gathers pertinent data
Determines treatment diagnosis
Develops an individualized plan of care through coordination with the patient and family
Analyzes data to identify needs and potential risks
Determines prognosis for recovery
Establishes individualized goals with patient and/or caregiver
Individualizes plan of care considering developmental level and cultural differences
Implements and modifies plan of care based on reassessment and patient response
Coordinates care and communicates effectively with interdisciplinary team for all aspects of patient care
Establishes appropriate discharge plan
Partners with patients and families to provide skilled intervention
Implements plan of care
Alters treatment/plan of care to reflect change in patient status and response to treatment
Assesses patient and/or caregiver learning needs and provides appropriate education
Prioritizes tasks and patient care for effective time management
Understands and follows professional licensure/certification requirements
Directs team members and/or supervises students as designated
Pursues personal and professional development to support clinical best practice
Occupational Therapy Licensure in State of Minnesota or temporary license in State of Minnesota
Active Minnesota Basic Life Support Certification
Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy
Minimum of 2 years pediatric clinical experience
Previous experience in an NICU or Special Care Nursery
Experience with infant feeding
Certification with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
Certified in Neonatal Therapy and/or Neonatal Touch and Massage
