The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is a not-for-profit membership organization that promotes the health of women and newborns. Our mission is to empower and support nurses caring for women, newborns, and their families through research, education, and advocacy.
The Director of the AWHONN Accreditation Unit functions as the Lead Nurse Planner for the organization. Carries out leadership roles and functions of the AWHONN Provider Unit and provides mentorship and direction for the AWHONN Nurse Planners. Provides leadership for program development and actively cultivates a culture of inquiry, innovation and creativity for the AWHONN Annual Convention. Assures the AWHONN Provider Unit has the structural capacity to achieve educational strategic goals.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIEs
Lead Nurse Planner: Provider Unit/Approver Unit
With the Vice President of Education and Clinical Solutions, provide strategic vision for educational content development.
Serve as the primary CNE resource of the organization, and serves as the Lead Nurse Planner for the AWHONN Provider Unit.
Responsible for orientation of new Nurse Planners to the AWHONN Provider Unit.
Own the Provider Unit relationship with licensing bodies: (Examples: ANCC, IBCLC, ACNM, etc.).
Oversee review and approval of learning assets for continuing nursing education credit.
Provide continuing education consulting and promote continuing education offerings through direct conversations and surveys with members.
Implement quality improvement measures as necessary to enhance educational program processes and member satisfaction.
Oversee the maintenance of continuing education listings in online catalogs and contribute design recommendations to new learning and event management tools.
Conduct environmental scans of programming content of other healthcare associations, and collaborate with internal stakeholders for member value proposition planning
Drive toward enhancing and elevating Continuing Education program metrics and track metrics for quarterly and annual Board of Directors reporting.
Responsible for department budget(s) as assigned
Actively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to evaluate AWHONN content libraries on an annual basis with the AWHONN Provider Unit
AWHONN Annual Convention Program
Oversee Annual Convention educational program development (including assistance in selection of Program Committee) in collaboration with Meetings and Conventions Team
Oversee the strategy and planning of the meeting, by working closely with the Program Committee in developing and implementing the organization’s meeting program.
Work collaboratively with AWHONN Meetings Team to ensure an educational model and to create dynamic event experiences that attract and participants.
Serve as Program leader collaborating with communications, membership, and education to develop and implement event growth and retention strategies for the Annual Convention.
Oversee all aspects of the online abstract submission, selection and presentation process (communication with abstract submitters, general and senior reviewers, oral and poster presenters; committee; vendor setup and management; timeline and schedule planning; troubleshooting, etc.).
Function as main liaison with AWHONN’s journal publisher on all aspects related to the abstract publication process (timely transmittal of electronic files, copyediting process, etc.).
Develop and oversee program schedule and calendar with the AWHONN Meetings Team, and communicate milestones and deadlines to AWHONN staff and Program committee members.
Develop weekly, monthly, and annual abstract performance and progress reports, including progress on achieving meeting strategic goals.
Provide ongoing professional mentoring, assist in their expansion of learning, provide tools to help build knowledge, skills, and growth capacity. Serve as resource for new and current staff. Promote positive work environment for all staff and effectively collaborate with leadership team.
Works independently under the guidance of the Vice President of Education and Clinical Solutions. Receives guidance on clarification and interpretation of policies of the organization. Work is occasionally reviewed upon completion.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Registered Nurse with a Master’s degree; either bachelor or graduate degree must be in nursing
Nurse Planner experience required, including clinical and/or adult education experience
Specialty certification in Nursing Professional Development strongly preferred.
Demonstrated history of working independently and creatively.
Experience in contracts and negotiation desired.
Demonstrated complex problem-solving skills, including interdisciplinary and team-based approaches.
Demonstrated skill in supporting clients (internal and external) in a highly professional manner.
Highly effective verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skills
Highly developed coordination and management skills with multiple projects and timelines.
This position is not eligible for telecommuting and is based in Washington, DC. This position may be eligible for work from home hours, and will be required to adhere to AWHONN’s Work from Home Policy
