Position Description Provides primary care as part of a health care team in an ambulatory setting in a particular discipline. Provides patient education and counseling as well as physical assessment. May participate in teaching programs for students and other student residents. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions and requires a high degree of contact with patients, families, and other clinic personnel and outside professionals. Some positions in the classification require travel to outreach clinics and home visits, and participation in educational efforts and special programs that occur outside of normal working hours.

Elicits records and interprets a complete health history including all obstetrical, past medical, family and psycho-social aspects. Performs a complete newborn physical examination, assessment stethoscope, of gestational age, and distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings. Orders tests and procedures as necessary. Writes admissions, discharges and medication orders with co signatures. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as necessary. Formulates care plan of care based on physical exam of other data and implements plan. Consults with attending or resident physicians prior to initiation of major procedure or plan. Responsible for attending Labor & Delivery for consults, vaginal deliveries and C-sections. Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications Active unrestricted certification Neonatal Nurse Practitioner issued by the National Certification Corporation (NCC). Active or eligible for license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Texas Board of Nursing and Advanced Practice Nurse status designation as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Eligible for Delegated Prescriptive Authorization through the Texas Board of Nursing. Active enrollment in National Certification Corporation Certification Maintenance Program. Certified in Neonatal Resuscitation Program Provider. Bi lingual competence in English and Spanish.

Required Qualifications Graduated from an approved accredited nursing program; current RN license in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer your license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the appropriate nursing specialty from an approved certification program as recognized by the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners. The Department of Pediatrics Neonatology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) is recruiting for Nurse Practitioner-Neonatal and Physician Extender-Pediatrics Neonatal. Applicants should have a strong interest in providing health care and patient education. The position requires a high degree of contact with patients and families. Each position is a full-time appointment at TTUHSC El Paso, and the salary is competitive.
TTUHSC El Paso’s Pediatric Neonatology Department is affiliated with University Medical Center of El Paso and El Paso Children's Hospital. The Children's Hospital opened its doors to the community in 2012. TTUHSC El Paso was established as the fourth university within the TTU System in 2013 and is undergoing a rapid expansion. TTUHSC El Paso graduated the inaugural class of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in May 2013.
