Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
The Step-Down Unit Physician Assistant (CCPA) is an equal member of the intensive care team. His/her primary responsibility is management of critically ill patients in a multidisciplinary, teaching intensive care unit. The CCPA is under the direct supervision of a critical care board-certified, full-time Intensivist. The CCPA provides direct patient care in the ICU and is expected to perform physical exams, collect and document data, conduct approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribe appropriate interventions and medications. The CCPA practices shoulder to shoulder with residents in medicine, surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology and otolaryngology and when appropriate would be expected to supervise same.
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree desirable. Prior experience as a Physician Assistant in critical care required. National Commission on Certification of PAs (NCCPA) certification. Licensure (or eligibility for NJ licensure) as a Physician Assistant in the state of New Jersey. Maintain credentialing and licensing requirements of SBMC and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners. ACLS and BLS.
