Knows and collects blood, using fingerstick, heelstick and/or venipuncture as appropriate to age: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
Processes specimens for in-house and sending to reference labs.
Performs specifically prescribed laboratory tests and examinations following standardized procedures.
Applies and documents appropriate quality control measures. Evaluates test results for validity and accuracy, identifying any deviations from the norm.
Determines if test outside established tolerance should be reported or repeated.
Reports test results according to procedure.
Maintains appropriate patient and departmental records of tests performed and test results. Calibrates and conducts routine maintenance on analytical equipment.
Notifies physician or nursing personnel concerning requested lab results.
Processes inpatients and out patients.
Demonstrates knowledge of computer operation. Keeps laboratory neat, clean and stocked. Checks and records temperature of laboratory equipment.
Complies with all UT Health Henderson Policies and Procedures.
Completion of a two year Medical Laboratory Technology program in an approved Medical Laboratory Technology school or grandfather by OJT by CLIA.
Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by a nationally approved organization within 6 months of hire One year hospital experience preferred but not required.
CPR is required which will be taught in-house. A Bachelor's Degree is required for a Medical Technologist.
