Ochsner Health System in New Orleans, Louisiana, announces an exceptional opportunity for a Physician Executive to provide the medical leadership and expertise to advance the clinical, financial, operational and strategic goals for the Ochsner Cancer Institute and system-wide oncology service line.
The Medical Director for Ochsner Cancer Institute is based at The Gayle & Tom Benson Cancer Center, located on the campus of Ochsner Medical Center, and organized by disease specific programs in a matrix model. Within the Ochsner Health Network, physicians treat over 7,000 new analytic cancer cases per year. As part of its Centers of Excellence strategy, Ochsner embarked on a 10-year strategic initiative to double the size of its cancer program. The plan calls for substantial investment in faculty, facilities and research programs with a goal of becoming a top 50 cancer program nationally.
Ochsner has a robust cancer clinical trials program with more than 130 active trials enrolling over 400 patients per year. Ochsner Cancer Institute holds the regional NCORP grant and has a rapidly growing Experimental Therapeutics/Phase 1 Research Program.
The system Medical Director of Ochsner Cancer Institute will provide the clinical leadership, direction, vision and oversight to build upon the existing strong foundation to advance the system’s comprehensive oncology strategic plan. The system Medical Director will align community providers and employed physicians in the shared vision for advancing quality and service based on evidence-based best practices. The system Medical Director will participate in the recruitment and integration of high performing physicians, expand clinical programs and services to provide comprehensive cancer services and care with a multidisciplinary care team approach, and expand research for advancing care.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a highly respected oncologist with a collaborative leadership style and proven track record of innovative program development. Demonstrated leadership in advancing a recognized cancer program within a multi-site health system and a successful track record of accomplishments in medical, surgical or radiation oncology including clinical care, education and research is required. Candidates must have a medical degree, current board certification in medical, surgical or radiation oncology and be eligible for an unrestricted Louisiana license.
