LOCATION: JOHN H. STROGER HOSPITAL - OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY / PEDIATRICS
Under the general supervision of the Department Chairs of Pediatrics and Obstetrics, educates patients and staff about the lactation program focusing on antepartum, postpartum, nursery and problem solving resolutions. Offer feedback and patient support during the decision-making process. Develops protocols for assessment of breast-feeding infants and lactating mothers. Collects and reports monthly breastfeeding statistics. Participates in ongoing hospital quality assurance projects to support the Maternity Practices in Infant Nutrition (mPINC) survey required every two years. The Director of Advanced Practice Professionals will monitor the employee for compliance with standards of nursing care and practice.
A Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from college or university is required. (Must provide official transcripts at time of interview).
Must be licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois.
Must possess a current International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or must obtain certification within Twelve (12) months of the hire date is required. (If obtained must provide at time of interview).
Must possess a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certificate or must obtain certification within Three (3) months of hire date is required. (If obtained must provide at time of interview).
A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a lactation consultant within the past five (5) years is required.
Ability to travel to attend speaking engagements throughout the community is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of breast feeding and prenatal care.
Ability to operate breast pumping equipment and clean after each use.
Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or other related Health field is preferred.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
